Bitten by the travel bug

By Alejandro Izquierdo (Chicago, IL)

From the devastation of Hurricane Katrine to the aftermath of 9/11, CNN producer Brian Rokus has been there bringing the latest news to the American people.

He spoke to us on Sunday about his exciting career as a journalist, and showed us clips from his 9/11 documentary America Remembers, which brought chills down everyone's backs. He also discussed his experience reporting on Hurricane Charlie from Virgina Beach, saying that it was "the only time I had sand in my teeth."

But the most memorable part of the workshop was when he discussed why he had chosen to pursue a career in journalism. Rokus explained that going to the craziest places at the craziest times was part of the job, and that reporting allows one to travel to many places and get paid for it. I really enjoyed his frank advice, which reaffirmed my interest in becoming a reporter.
