Becoming part of the SJP family

Marco Rivas (Los Angeles, CA)

One of the biggest things that stands out about SJP has to be the sense of family. I come from a small, Catholic school, Bishop Mora Salesian High, that promotes a sense of brotherhood and family. In my three years there, I have learned the importance of these two themes. Thus, I am really happy that this program can replicate such an environment.

On Friday, I instantly could sense the openness and warmth radiating from the counselors and the students alike. Then and there, I thought that this program was going to be something special, and it has been. So far, with only a couple of days into the program, I have already made great friends. In all of them, I see qualities that I appreciate: they are smart, funny, responsible and respectful. It’s really great to see people of different cities, races, genders and religions to be able to come together right away and have fun and do work.

Another great thing about this program has to be the level of intensity. In a sense, it’s a bittersweet thing. I have heard everyone say that they have been extremely tired. Nevertheless, the fatigue is worth it. The great workshops, and fun conversations make it worth it.

I’m sure that I will learn much more as the days go by. My friendships with everyone will only get better. The only bad thing I can think of is the knowledge that the experience will end.
